Next Steps for the United Museum Workers
Hello United Museum Workers,
Our contract victory last month was a huge step forward for our union. Now we will enter a new phase in which we join forces with other local USW bargaining units and put infrastructure in place to enforce our contract.
In the coming weeks, the United Museum Workers will join Amalgamated Local 9562. An amalgamated local is a collective of small unions who have different employers but work in similar fields and/or the same geographic region. Amalgamated Local 9562 currently represents workers at the Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh, HCL Google contractors, the Persad Center, and MK Elections, all unionized with the United Steelworkers.
Union Leadership Elections
Now that we have a contract, we no longer have a Bargaining Committee or a Contract Action Team. You can still go to your friends who formerly participated in the Bargaining Committee and the CAT with your questions and concerns. Later this summer, dedicated members of our bargaining unit will run for elected leadership positions such as Unit President, Unit Secretary, and the Grievance Committee.
An election committee staffed by members of the United Library Workers will help run our election. The election will most likely have a similar format to our previous Bargaining Committee elections.
Stay tuned for more election details in the near future!

Thanks again to everyone who worked towards this important victory!
Support the Staff Union of Pitt
Come out to support the Staff Union of Pitt as they prepare to file for their election this summer! Our comrades are hosting a rally on Thursday, June 8th at 5:00pm in Schenley Plaza to celebrate their plan to hold an election to form a union to represent the roughly 7,000 staff workers at the University of Pittsburgh.
The staff workers would like folks attending the event to show their pride and solidarity by wearing union swag, buttons, or stickers. Attendees will meet at the big tent in Schenley Plaza at 249 Schenley Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15260. RSVP at this link: https://actionnetwork.org/events/pittsburgh-labor-celebrates-staff-union-of-pitt/
Meeting of Amalgamated Local 9562
Everyone in the United Museum Workers is invited to the next meeting of our amalgamated local union on Friday, June 23rd at 6:30pm at USW Headquarters in Downtown Pittsburgh. Meet your fellow local members, ask questions about what it means to be a part of this local, learn more about the next steps, and make your voice heard!
We look forward to seeing you there!
Questions? Ideas? We want to hear from you! Write to us at [email protected]. Our strength as a union lies in our transparent communication and shared experience. Let’s chat!
