Subject: UMW Newsletter
Hello United Museum Workers,
Happy New Year! 2023 was definitely a very eventful year for our union, and we look forward to doing more in 2024. If one of your new year’s resolutions was to get more involved in UMW, you can start by coming to the next Local 9562 meeting later this month!
Local 9562 Meeting
Our next Local meeting will take place on Sunday, January 21st, 6:30pm-9:00pm. Please note that this meeting is happening at a new location because the USW Headquarters are closed on Sundays. Instead, we will meet at The Pittsburgh Friends Meeting House in North Oakland at 4836 Ellsworth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
As always, we recommend in-person attendance, but you can attend remotely by using this link to register for the Zoom meeting: bit.ly/local9562
Invite your coworkers!
Pittsburgh City Paper People of the Year
Have you heard the news? The Pittsburgh City Paper named UMW 2023 People of the Year in Labor! We feel so proud and honored to receive this recognition for all the progress we made last year.

Unit Meeting Recap
The last UMW meeting took place on December 18th. The unit grievers gave overviews of some recently resolved grievances and reminded attendees to use their Weingarten rights in disciplinary meetings with management. We also discussed the formation of the Health & Safety and Labor Management Committees, which we hope to organize soon once we have interested representatives from all of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. If you work at the Carnegie Museum of Art and would like to serve on either committee, please contact your union leaders or email us [email protected].

We encourage all our members to download the Slack app on your phone and personal computer, or just use the platform with your web browser. Our union uses Slack to share updates about upcoming union events, organize union activity, spread the word about local labor actions, socialize, and post cute photos of our pets and plants! You can also bring up problems at your museum that need the attention of our union grievers, ask questions about other departments and other museums, and get to know your fellow union members.
The UMW leaders look forward to seeing more of you on our Slack!
Questions? Ideas? We want to hear from you! Write to us at [email protected]. Our strength as a union lies in our transparent communication and shared experience. Let’s chat!
