Notice of Bargaining Unit Elections for the United Museum Workers
To the membership of the United Museum Workers,
Congratulations on your first contract! Now it’s time to elect your unit leadership positions.
The election will take place online via Opavote, just like the contract ratification vote.
Keep in mind that these will be interim positions until April of 2024. The Local will then conduct another round of leadership elections coinciding with all of USW’s leadership elections, which take place every three years.
Offices to be Filled
We will be accepting nominations for the following positions: Unit President, Unit Secretary, and up to 10 Grievers. Here’s how the job duties for each position are defined under our Local’s bylaws.
Unit President
It shall be the duty of the Unit President to preside at all meetings of the Unit; to decide all questions of order, subject to appeal to the Local Union; and, consistent with the provisions of the By-laws and the Manuals, policies and Constitution of the International Union, to perform such other duties as the Unit or Local Union may assign. The Unit President shall be an ex-officio member of all committees in his/her/their Unit, and shall appoint all committees within the Unit not otherwise provided for.
Unit Secretary
It shall be the duty of the Unit Secretary to record the attendance and the proceedings of the Unit in books kept for that purpose, to read all papers and to perform such other duties, consistent with these By-Laws and the Manuals, policies and Constitution of the International Union, as the Unit or Local Union may assign.
Unit Grievers- 10 total (1 from each component, 5 at large)
It shall be the duty of the Unit Griever(s) to process complaints and grievances, within their respective units and in accordance with the appropriate collective bargaining agreement and, consistent with these By-laws and the Manuals, policies and Constitution of the International Union, to perform such other duties as the Unit or Local Union may assign.
Nominations at The General Meeting
Nominations will be made at The General Meeting of USW Local 9562 held at USW Headquarters on Friday, June 23rd at 6:30pm. In-person attendance is encouraged, but you can also register to join via Zoom at this link.
