Our next UMW-only general meeting will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, August 22nd from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. This meeting will be a great opportunity to get to know our recently-elected UMW leaders and learn more about the current phase of our union. Invite your coworkers!

Labor Day Updates
Labor Day takes place on Monday, September 4th this year. We all have the opportunity to march in the annual Labor Day Parade, and attend our local’s Labor Day Picnic!
All Steelworkers, families, and friends who march in the parade with our group will receive a T-shirt with the USW logo. Lunch and refreshments will be provided after the parade at the USW Headquarters located at 60 Boulevard of the Allies. To receive a shirt, please meet us in the Melody Tent Lot in Downtown Pittsburgh near the former site of the old Civic/Mellon Arena by 9:00 am. Look for the USW van. Our group will depart from the Melody Tent Lot and follow the parade route.
At 3:00pm, all members of Local 9562 are welcome to attend a Labor Day Picnic at Rhododendron Shelter in Highland Park. To RSVP for the picnic and/or share what you will bring to the potluck, go to tinyurl.com/ulwpicnic23
Save the Date: September 26th
Our UMW Victory Party will be held at the Vietnam Veterans’ Pavilion in Schenley Park from 5:00pm - 9:00pm on Tuesday, September 26th. All members of UMW, Local 9562, and friends and allies of our union are welcome to attend!
This will be a potluck cookout, so bring something to share with your fellow members! If you’d like to help with organizing our celebration, reach out to Jim Kappas at [email protected].
We Still Need Membership Cards
Now that we have ratified our union contract, everyone needs to sign a union card in order to attend union meetings and participate in the decision-making process. If you haven’t signed a card yet, you can still do so! Attend the next Local 9562 general meeting in person, ask a coworker that’s involved with the union, or email [email protected].
Collection of union dues began with the pay period starting on August 6th and all employees will see the adjustment in the paycheck dispersed on September 1st. Our union dues consist of 1.45% of your gross earnings plus 2 cents per hour. To learn more about union dues, you can read more here: https://www.usw.org/members/your-dues
Our local will receive 44% of all dues collected and together we decide democratically how to spend that money. Join us at the bimonthly USW Local 9562 General Meetings to make your voice heard.
