SEPTEMBER 27, 2021 - UMW Newsletter
Greetings United Museum Workers!
Earlier this month, we hosted a Health & Safety Listening Session for our entire bargaining unit to assess the latest updates to CMP’s masking policy. Staff from across all our museums and central offices came together and shared their experiences. In doing so, we learned that CMP’s implementation of the new guidelines has been inconsistent, to the detriment of our members and the public. Thanks to worker solidarity and the testimony of all who participated in our listening session, our bargaining committee has already begun advocating for improved policies to better protect us all.
Over the last week, the BC has reviewed notes and summarized the main takeaways and sent them to CMP management. We will update you as the negotiations progress. Transparency and open communication are essential in ensuring everyone’s safety. Your input is vital to this process. Get in touch with your CAT Coordinator with any questions or concerns. Please continue to raise your voices, share with each other, and help us to make our museums a safer place for everyone.
In case you missed it...
Our bargaining committee has put out an exciting new update regarding raising the minimum starting wage at CMP! Check it out on our website. We are thrilled to see more and more of our lowest paid workers starting to earn higher wages.
Button-making Bash!
In preparation for our upcoming Potluck, some of our members will be gathering on Thursday, September 30th to make UMW buttons. Join us at the CMOA sculpture courtyard during lunchtime, 12:00-1:00pm, or after work at 5:00pm. No prior button-making experience necessary! It is fast, easy, and fun!
Time to celebrate!
It’s almost time for our first ever UMW Potluck! Join us on Monday, October 4th at 6:00pm at the Vietnam Veterans Pavilion in Schenley Park for an evening of food, fun, beverages, and button-making! Be sure to RSVP!
Support Workers of the University of Pittsburgh!
The Union of Pitt Faculty is in the middle of their long-awaited union election, and the staff of the University of Pittsburgh just announced their unionization campaign. If you happen to know someone who works at Pitt, send them a link to this survey to help spread the word.
Questions? Ideas? We want to hear from you! Write to us at [email protected]. Our strength as a union lies in our transparent communication and shared experience. Let’s chat!
