Our President Met The President!
On April 18th, UMW President Jenise Brown met USA President Joe Biden at USW Headquarters as part of an event in which he met several USW leaders. Jenise has written the following statement about the experience:
A message from your President
I was invited to join the USW District 10 (Pennsylvania) delegation to meet President Biden during his visit to Pittsburgh. I spent most of the day getting to talk with other USW Local & Unit Presidents from across industries, District Director Bernie Hall and his staff, and USW President Dave McCall. After President Biden entered the building I had a chance to briefly shake his hand and then attend his speech. The President spoke about the state of steel in the US with renewed promises to back American steel production.
A diverse collective of people comprise our union at the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, and we naturally have a diverse range of feelings about various elected officials; this is totally okay - in fact, it's important for us to make space for this. It is my own belief that, especially as a relatively new union, engaging with political leaders at this level helps us to be taken seriously and amplifies our work. I was proud to represent our union!
