MARCH 17, 2023
Greetings, United Museum Workers!
We have big news!
Today, for the first time, we were met with a serious wage proposal from CMP. We have finally been offered a wage proposal bringing the lowest paid workers in our Union up to $16.00 per hour! This is a big win for us and it would not have happened without so many of you stepping up and getting involved. See what a little solidarity can do! YOU signed membership cards. YOU signed up for text messages. YOU showed up to our meetings and strike prep training sessions. YOU wore buttons. And YOU talked to your fellow members. And our solidarity is beginning to pay off.
With that said, we have more work to do. CMP’s latest wage proposal is still divisive. Though it offers the wage increases we have been demanding for our lowest paid members, it does not include substantial pay increases for our members making above $16.00 per hour and it offers little else in the way of benefits for part time UMW Employees such as paid holidays, vacation time, or sick leave. In exchange for this, management wants to retain exclusive control over CMP policies and conditioned these wage increases on the withdrawal of our parking proposal.
This means that our work is not done. We must keep fighting for the contract we deserve because, we know, when we fight we win!
Be there at our next general meeting this coming Tuesday, March 21st at 6:30pm on the Fourth Floor of the USW Building downtown.
In Solidarity!
