Subject: UMW Newsletter
Hello United Museum Workers,
UMW has recently updated our newsletter mailing list and added several new union members. To those of you hearing from us for the first time: Welcome! We believe you will benefit from these regular updates about our union and amalgamated local; and our Communications Committee is open to any questions and feedback you have about the newsletters.
FINAL REMINDER: Local Meeting This Sunday
This is your final reminder that our next Local 9562 General Meeting takes place this Sunday, March 17th at 6:30pm. It will take place at the Friends Meeting House at 4836 Ellsworth Avenue in Shadyside.
We hope to see as many UMW members as possible, as this will be the nominations meeting for the elections in April. Any UMW member in good standing can nominate themselves or another union member for any leadership position. You must attend the meeting, either in person or on Zoom, to make a nomination; however, you can nominate someone else who is not at the meeting. If you plan to nominate someone other than yourself, please share your intentions with that person before the meeting.

It’s an election year!
Prior to the many political elections happening in 2024, all USW unions will conduct leadership elections in April of this year. You should have received an election notice in the mail from Local 9562 earlier this week which contains information on where, when, and how to vote.
Several of our current UMW leaders will run for re-election, but you are welcome to challenge them if you nominate yourself at our meeting on March 17th. You can also run for a leadership position in Local 9562, such as President, Vice President, Treasurer, Financial Secretary or Recording Secretary. You will receive a newsletter with a list of election candidates in the week following the March 17th nominations meeting.
Per USW by-laws, voting will take place in-person. You can vote at the Friends Meeting House at 4836 Ellsworth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA, 15213. The polls will be open from 5:30pm to 9:00pm every evening from Sunday, April 14th through Saturday, April 20th.
Absentee ballots are available for those who are unable to make it to Pittsburgh during the election dates. USW Local 9562 must receive all requests by April 7th. For more information, please consult the election notice you received in the mail.
Upcoming Women of Steel Meeting on 3-24
Our UMW President Jenise Brown is working with other women in Local 9562 on putting together our own chapter of the Women of Steel Committee. The committee has scheduled a meeting on March 24th at 6:00 pm. You can join in person at the Friends Meeting House at 4836 Ellsworth Avenue, or via Zoom: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAod-ihqTgoGdDHUf-3nX9f71sV7tOhUv5w
Jenise will also attend the Women of Steel Roundtable event featuring Wendy Chun-Hoon, the Director of the U.S. Department of Labor Women's Bureau, and Summer Lee, U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 12th District. As part of the work around Women's History Month, this event will focus on the achievements and importance of women in the labor movement.
