Greetings United Museum Workers!
We’ve tallied your votes…
Thank you for participating in our latest Bargaining Committee election! We are thrilled to announce the two latest additions to our BC: Natalie McClaine, Gallery Associate at The Andy Warhol Museum, and Abby Michalowski, who works as both a Gallery Associate at The Andy Warhol Museum and an Educator at the Carnegie Museum of Art.
Congratulations, Natalie and Abby! It is excellent to have more representation of the frontline staff and the North Side museums on our Bargaining Committee. Thank you for joining the BC to advocate for all of us in UMW. Get to know everyone on our BC by visiting our website.
You’re invited!
The United Museum Workers will meet at Federal Galley on the North Side on Thursday, June 9 from 5:00-8:30pm for our first happy hour of the summer! Workers from all of the Carnegie Museums are welcome. This is a great opportunity to meet coworkers from other departments, catch up with old friends, and unwind after our recent Bargaining Committee election.
Would you like to volunteer to drive a colleague home after the happy hour? Contact your museum’s CAT Coordinator or write to us at [email protected].
An update on masking from the BC
Based on feedback from members, and in light of Allegheny County’s covid numbers being deemed “high” by the CDC, our Bargaining Committee proposed on June 1 that CMP reevaluate its current mask policy. In response to our proposal, senior management held an emergency meeting to discuss.
Despite the concerns that we raised, management has decided to continue using the current mask policy, which specifies optional masking for visitors and staff in the museums. Their decision took into account the previous conflicts that front-line staffers had faced when encountering difficult visitors and information from Allegheny County showing a downward trend over the last 7 days. CMP has committed to providing masks to staff and visitors who request them at all components.
Please share questions, concerns, and issues with your CAT members or send us an email. It’s important that we hear from everyone so we can help improve health and safety for our coworkers and visitors.
Questions? Ideas? We want to hear from you! Write to us at [email protected]. Our strength as a union lies in our transparent communication and shared experience. Let’s chat!
