Continuing economic bargaining
Much of today’s bargaining session centered around compensation. We presented an economic counter-proposal to CMP. We are holding to our commitment to securing a living wage for our members, and we hope that CMP hears us loud and clear.
We also had the opportunity to ask CMP a lot of questions about how they determine compensation. CMP brought in their compensation manager from HR to discuss how wages are determined. Considering the number of positions and departments across the Museums, the process is complex, so our questions aimed to provide more transparency. We explained that this lack of transparency is frustrating for all of us in the bargaining unit. Today we learned that two-thirds of the time CMP contracts an outside consultant to recommend a pay grade and that CMP is not entitled to know what the recommendation is actually based on. The responses to our questions were convoluted and reflect a complex and inconsistent process. We will take everything we learned today in consideration when we receive the economic counter-proposal from CMP, which we expect at our next bargaining session on February 6th.
