CMP’s Latest Compensation Proposal
Today, we received CMP’s second economic counter proposal. Unfortunately, what they’re currently offering is far from anything we can agree to. They have made some movement for the lowest paid employees, though NOT the living wage we are demanding. Additionally, CMP is proposing that employees who make more than $17.50 per hour receive NO wage increase this year beyond the 2.5% increase that went into effect in January.
To make matters worse, under CMP's current proposal, those of us who are full-time employees with dependents on our healthcare plans will be effectively taking a major pay cut as our yearly health insurance costs will more than double. For instance, a single parent with 2 children currently making $18 per hour would effectively take a $2.82 hourly pay cut as a result of having to contribute way more for health insurance. This is the second proposal CMP has presented to us that takes from full-time employees’ health benefits to offset the cost of raises for our lowest-paid members. And, again, CMP is still not addressing the real need for a living wage NOW.
CMP has also continued to ignore the issue of our being required to pay them to park in lots they own. After more than a year of bargaining, is this the best they can do?! We’ve been told they can afford all of our proposals, so what will it take for CMP to finally offer us a fair contract? IT WILL TAKE ALL OF US STANDING TOGETHER IN SOLIDARITY!!
Come to the UMW membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the USW headquarters downtown (60 Blvd. of the Allies), on Tuesday, February 21st to decide our next steps for winning a fair contract!!
