FEBRUARY 28, 2023
Greetings Union Siblings,
These last two weeks of February have been full of Union activity. Not only did we have a general membership meeting with almost 100 attendees, we began a campaign to gather signatures on our Union membership cards. These cards are our official way to participate in Union matters like voting on our contract. It’s important that all of us have a voice in the democratic process of our Union. If you have not signed a card yet, reach out to a CAT member today.
We have met with CMP three times since our last update. At the table we had good discussions with CMP about wage transparency and equitable hiring practices. We came to three tentative agreements, including the very important Seniority article. For the first time, CMP has agreed to recognize our years of service when considering bids on job openings!
Today, we presented an economic package counterproposal that reiterated our commitment to providing a living wage for all and more benefits for part-time workers. We are hoping to have a response soon, but we are still far apart on fair and reasonable compensation. CMP’s compensation proposals still do not provide the living wage and benefits we all deserve. As a Union, we need to think about how we can show CMP that we are ready to fight for our Contract!
The most important steps for our Union are still ahead. In addition to being involved and staying informed, it is critical that our members sign Union membership cards. Signing a Union card means having a voice in upcoming decisions, foremost among them, ratifying our contract or whether we potentially authorize a strike.
To learn more, we have an in-person USW Strike Education Session scheduled for Sunday, March 12, 10:00 am - Noon at USW headquarters, 60 Blvd of the Allies, Pittsburgh and a virtual session on Tuesday, March 14, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Please join us for one of those meetings and learn more about exercising our legal right to strike for a fair contract!
In solidarity,
The United Museum Workers Bargaining Committee
